Luke 2:48 And when they [Joseph and Mary] saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, Child, why have You treated us like this? Here Your father and I have been anxiously looking for You [distressed and tormented].
I wonder if Jesus knew the torture He was putting His parents through. Why did He not tell them He was going to remain in the temple? It is almost as if He hated them. Of course we know this is not the case. We know that Jesus had great love for His mother and Joseph. When they did find Him He respectfully followed them and was obedient. He did make one comment, “I had to be about my Father’s business”. See Jesus was not causing heart ache to His parents. He simply put pleasing His Father first. He knew that telling them would only be an obstacle. In the same way He expects His followers to abandon anything that prevents them from pleasing God.
