1 John 3:8 The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.

I chose this verse specifically for the Christmas season. I know that it’s hard to find holiday cheer for we all have done sinful things. The reason to rejoice is that the Son of God has appeared in human flesh and takes away the sins of the world. That was John the Baptist testimony after He baptized Jesus. For he knew Jesus was the Lamb of God when he saw the Spirit descend. Now, the apostle John declares that this was the very purpose that a child was born to a virgin, in a manger, in the town of Bethlehem over 2000 years ago. He is not trying to kill the Christmas joy, but wants us to be aware of the true joy. In the preceding chapter 2:1, John says, “My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. “ So we can see that John did not write this letter to condemn or shame sinners. No, his purpose is to educate the sinner that sin is now powerless in our lives and the devil has been undone! Merry Christmas!!!

He will establish you

Romans 16:25

Now to him who is able to establish you in accordance with my gospel, the message I proclaim about Jesus Christ, in keeping with the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past,

He will establish you. He is able! Do you realize what this means? To establish means to cause to be recognized and appoint permanently. God wants to do this in our lives but we keep backing down. We are ok with persevering as long as things are good. Then things get a little tough and we start sweating. By the time the suffering comes we begin to panic and worry and miss the appointment. Well, 2 Tim 3:12 tells us, “all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer” So why are we so surprised when we miss this promise after we lose heart? Jesus told us not to lose heart for trouble will come. I am not trying to shame anyone. I have missed my share of divine appointments too. However, every time we grab on to some other means of comfort we have lost heart. Stop grabbing on to people, places, things, positions, fantasies, and other temporal comforts. Make up your mind to be recognized in accordance with Christ even when that means sharing in His sufferings. Don’t miss His next appointment!

Revelation 2:16 (NLV) Be sorry for your sins and turn from them. If you do not, I will come to you right away. I will fight against them with the sword of My mouth.

One of the most admired qualities in this world is strength. Wrestling is a sport that awards strength. When wrestling with sin the greatest strength is confronting your weakness. The longer you are dressed with the cover-up of pride and denial the longer you remain wrapped up in the sin and remember, “sin is death”. The only cure is true repentance. This means more than simply a guilty conscience that causes you to deeply regret the wrongdoing. Repentance involves the change of direction, a walking away from the offense and moving toward God. It’s when one stops repenting that they stop moving toward God. Let me encourage you to be quick to repent. Do not let fears of the offense prevent this. Be on guard against greed, pride, and other things which also keep one from true repentance. God is loving, kind, and full of mercy. Walk humbly before our God!

What if?

Matthew 5:41 If someone forces you to go one mile, go two miles with him.

A person may demand that you go a mile with or for them and the bible rightly instructs that we go two. We are to give generously, ungrudgingly, without counting the cost. Many of us do this well when the demand is present. I want to remind you that Holy Spirit is a gentleman. He will not force anyone to go a mile. He has advised us to seek the Lord and promised that you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul. Jesus said to ask, seek, knock and attached similar promise. The promise has been made. We just need to go the mile without force. If you have walked that mile you know the promise is true! Now what if? What if we go the extra mile?

Stand up

Psalm 31:24 "Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord."

Too many Christians are trying to duck and take cover when God has instructed us to be strong and take heart. Our faith is being stripped away from us because people are afraid to stand. I’m not asking anyone to step out and fire. God will rise up His warriors, but please stand up, stand up for Jesus. We live in dark and uncertain times and the Word tells us that many will abandon the faith. Is your hope in the Lord? Then be strong and take heart. Armor up! Ephesians 6:13 “so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”
